Scoring Medical Decision-Making for Office Visits in 2021

October 31, 2019 @ 12:00 EST

www.codingintel.com

Let’s compare the current medical decision-making rules with the CPT changed rules for 2021 for codes 99202—99215. The existing rules and the revised rules are similar enough to be confusing, and different enough to require practice. For October’s webinar, we will look at the MDM section only and calculate the level of MDM. Not all questions about the 2021 E/M MDM are answered this far in advance. But, enough is known and the definitions are clear enough to get started.

After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the codes that are—and are not– affected by the change in 2021
  • Describe the key differences between the current and revised schema for MDM
  • Begin practicing with the revised guidelines

CMS’s 2020 Proposed Physician Rule

August 22, 2019

CodingIntel.com

At the end of June each year, CMS releases its Proposed Physician Rule.  The rule can be boring (wage index changes for practice expense) and exciting (E/M policy changes). It can be aggravating (proposing to decrease payment when using this or that modifier) and invigorating  (proposing to add payments for new services). Everyone has the opportunity to comment on the proposals, and the Final Rule (with RVU values) is released in November.

Join us on July 25 for a 60 minute live webinar that describes the proposals for 2020. Details will follow, after CMS releases the rule and I read it!

Handouts will include the draft of the CPT E/M section for 2021!

CPT® E/M Changes Coming in 2021

July 23, 2020

Register here

Have you seen the AMA document outlining changes to the E/M code set for 2021? While we
wait to hear what CMS is doing in 2020, and if there 2021 plans are changing, here’s a chance to
hear about the changes that you’ll see in your CPT book in 2021.

CPT is planning significant changes to the E/M code set for 2021 for new and established office
and outpatient codes. The AMA has released draft guidelines that change how these codes are
selected. The rules for using time to select a code will be different for new and established
patient codes in 2021. The AMA has added the concept of split/shared to their instructions, a
billing rule previously described in the Medicare manual but not in the CPT book. And, for new
and established office and outpatient visits, CPT is proposing to drop history and exam
requirements and retooled the medical decision making definitions.

CPT rules govern all payers, so these changes are important. If CMS includes E/M in their 2020
proposed rule (due out any day now….), that content will be added to this webinar.

Sign up today to hear about these momentous, upcoming changes.
After the seminar participants will be able to:

  • Know how to use time for new and established patients in 2021
  • Define the key terms in the revised MDM guidelines
  • Plan how to implement change in their practice

“My organization approached Betsy Nicoletti because we had providers failing coding audits.

Betsy’s name is out there in the coding world as a leader in the field and wanted the best for our providers.

Betsy works with the organization to set up webinars for our new provider on boarding training process (which according to them has been most beneficial), as well as subsequent auditing to ensure provider engagement and understanding.

Betsy’s one on one approach has helped the organization overall by the specialized attention to our specific needs.

I appreciate Betsy’s tactful approach with the providers to lessen their concerns as it relates to proper coding. She is up to date on all of the current changes in coding and maintains the communication whenever warranted.

Overall I have found the experience of working with Betsy as positive and educational. I would not hesitate to recommend Betsy to any organization that needs to improve their coding practices and improve success rates from outside auditing.”
