Coding Behavioral Health Services

June 20, 2019

CodingIntel.com

This webinar describes CPT coding for behavioral health services, including services performed by therapists, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants. It will answer questions about how to code for initial evaluations, re-evaluations, medication management (with and without psychotherapy on the same day), psychotherapy for patients in crisis, and the interactive complexity add-on code. It will include an overview of diagnostic coding from Chapter 5, mental, behavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Getting paid for behavioral health is partially determined by the clinician’s licensure and the state’s scope of practice for individuals with that license. This webinar will not address those issues, because they vary by state.

Learning objectives

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Select the correct code for initial evaluations and re-evaluations
  • Describe the coding requirements when using crisis psychotherapy codes
  • Understand how to bill for E/M services on the day of psychotherapy

Coding inpatient pediatric services

May 23, 2019

CodingIntel.com

Coding for inpatient newborn and pediatric care is more complicated than coding for inpatient adult care. The category of code is based on the condition of the baby or child. There are intensive care codes, critical care codes and critical care pediatric codes. Sometimes, the age of the patient determines the code and sometimes the weight of the baby determines the code.

It is important to select the codes that reflect the condition of the patient, whether providing 24-hour care or stabilizing and transferring the patient. This webinar will explain the use of these codes, using clinical examples from CPT Changes: An Insider’s View from 2008, 2009 and 2013.

Join us for May’s webinar on coding inpatient pediatric services.

Spotlight On Office Procedure and E/M Coding (Chicago)

May 9, 2019

American College of Surgeons

Surgeons love the operating room, but in reality spend a lot of time seeing patients and performing procedures in the office. Accurate coding ensures proper revenue for these services. And while the documentation requirements for office E/M services may be changing, surgeons must still follow billing guidelines for critical care services, inpatient, observation, and emergency department visits. These are complicated by the fact that some E/M services can be billed separately and some are part of the payment for the global package.

This lightning speed course reviews common office procedure coding, including wound care coding. You’ll learn about the new CPT codes for fine needle aspiration biopsy, excisional biopsy, and inter-professional consult codes, and get an update on CMS coding policies for 2019. We’ll clarify coding for screening colonoscopy as well as how and when to use modifiers 33 and PT. You’ll learn how diagnosis coding establishes medical necessity for services. Plus, we’ll analyze medical policies and explain the importance of risk-adjusted diagnosis coding for surgical practices.

Learning Objectives

  • Determine which pre-op and post-op services can be billed during the global period for a major or minor procedure.
  • Assign E/M modifiers.
  • Code office E/M services and procedures accurately.
  • Select the correct diagnosis codes for screening and surveillance services.

“My organization approached Betsy Nicoletti because we had providers failing coding audits.

Betsy’s name is out there in the coding world as a leader in the field and wanted the best for our providers.

Betsy works with the organization to set up webinars for our new provider on boarding training process (which according to them has been most beneficial), as well as subsequent auditing to ensure provider engagement and understanding.

Betsy’s one on one approach has helped the organization overall by the specialized attention to our specific needs.

I appreciate Betsy’s tactful approach with the providers to lessen their concerns as it relates to proper coding. She is up to date on all of the current changes in coding and maintains the communication whenever warranted.

Overall I have found the experience of working with Betsy as positive and educational. I would not hesitate to recommend Betsy to any organization that needs to improve their coding practices and improve success rates from outside auditing.”
