CMS’s 2022 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule

December 15, 2021 @ 12:00pm

The Final Rule was released on time this year, November 2. As is often the case, there is something for everyone to object to in the rule.

First, the conversion factor decreases $1.30 to $33.59. But, CMS also clarifies its position on split/shared visits involving a physician and non-physician practitioner for 2022 and 2023. For critical care, CMS is adopting the CPT book’s language for critical care services. In a relief to surgical practices, they are allowing critical care services in the post-op period that are unrelated to the surgery. This is the current rule. CMS is developing new modifiers for split/shared and for post-op services. There is a clarification (not a policy change) to the the Teaching Physician rules about using time to select E/M services. The webinar will discuss CMS’s updates to telehealth policy for 2022 and 2023, something everyone is interested in hearing about.

After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe CMS’s policy changes for shared services
  • Identify the modifiers for shared services and critical care
  • Define CMS’s telehealth policies for mental health services

Update to ICD-10-CM in 2022 including COVID and SDoH

November 18th, 2021 @ 12:00pm Eastern

While there are only 159 new diagnosis codes in the ICD-10-CM code set, effective October 1, 2021, there updates to the official guidelines that coders need to know about. Not surprisingly, the guideline changes emphasize specificity. There are new codes for the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and who can document these in order to capture them on the claim form. There is a new code for post-COVID-19 and instructions for its use. This webinar will highlight the new codes and guideline changes for this code set.

After the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Describe where to find the new files and guidelines, and how to interpret them
  • Identify new codes relevant to their practices
  • Understand how and why to use the SDoH codes

“My organization approached Betsy Nicoletti because we had providers failing coding audits.

Betsy’s name is out there in the coding world as a leader in the field and wanted the best for our providers.

Betsy works with the organization to set up webinars for our new provider on boarding training process (which according to them has been most beneficial), as well as subsequent auditing to ensure provider engagement and understanding.

Betsy’s one on one approach has helped the organization overall by the specialized attention to our specific needs.

I appreciate Betsy’s tactful approach with the providers to lessen their concerns as it relates to proper coding. She is up to date on all of the current changes in coding and maintains the communication whenever warranted.

Overall I have found the experience of working with Betsy as positive and educational. I would not hesitate to recommend Betsy to any organization that needs to improve their coding practices and improve success rates from outside auditing.”
